Carry-On Luggage Packing Tips

Source: The New York Times

I just discovered this New York Times article from 2010 about packing more efficiently, especially in carry-on luggage. Check out the “10 Days In a Carry-on” gallery with tips from a flight attendant.

Although I’d heard a lot of this advice before (like rolling clothes instead of folding), I had forgotten about it. I definitely plan to put these tips to good use on my next trip.

The First Music Monday!

This weekend I discovered a new sub-genre of music called Melodic Dubstep. It’s also sometimes called Chill or Chillout Dubstep. Now, usually I wouldn’t consider dubstep as “chill” music, but I’ve discovered some great songs (and I still am). I’ve created a playlist that I’ll be adding more songs to as I discover them. Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2654B847933679BF.

And just to whet your appetites, here’s one of my favorite Melodic Dubstep songs I’ve found so far:

Do you have any good additions to the playlist?

Aston Martin V12 Zagato

The Zagato is a new car by Aston Martin to supposedly be released later this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This new Zagato really does look nice, but only 150 will be made. Not surprising since the car will cost nearly $600,000. A few specs include a V12 engine and a 0-62 mph time of 4.2 seconds.

I first saw the Zagato a while ago on Top Gear (UK version, of course), but since then I’ve been trying to decide if I like it. You might ask what is there to not like about an Aston Martin. Well, I’m not too crazy about the design of the rear of the car. It just strikes me as a little strange.

Here are some concept renderings:

Taking Android on Set

Having a smartphone might be nice to just quickly glance at a script, but if you want to start making edits or letting your actors read off of the script, the small smartphone screen just makes it almost impossible. I’ve been wanting to buy an Android tablet for a few months, and with a slew of new and existing photography and film-themed apps, I want one even more now.

If I were to get an Android tablet, there are only two I’d even consider: the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1″ and the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. Both are amazingly well designed and have great features. I’m going to restrain myself, though, and wait until the next generation Android tablets begin rolling out with the Tegra 3 (aka Kal-El) quad-core. We’re already hearing rumors on specs for the next Transformer. While I’ve been waiting for the release, I’ve been researching the apps that I’d want. Continue reading

“Portal: No Escape” – A Live Action Portal Short Film

I only discovered Portal, the massively popular puzzle game, a little over a year ago, and I loved it. It’s such an innovative game and so engaging. I played it straight through in one sitting, a decision I regretted in my morning classes the next day. I haven’t had a chance to play Portal 2, yet, but I hope to remedy that by the end of the year.

In the mean time, a new short film was posted on YouTube called “Portal: No Escape,” a live action short film based on the Portal games. The film has great cinematography and visual effects. The beginning is a bit slow, and a few parts don’t completely make sense. But because of it’s sheer awesomeness, I can overlook those flaws.

120 Petabyte Data Drive!

Source: Engadget.com

It may not be Gadget & Tech Thursday, but I just couldn’t resist posting about this article I found on Engadget this morning.

An unnamed client has contracted IBM to build the world’s biggest data drive for a supercomputer for “detailed simulations of real-world phenomena.” This supercomputer’s 120 PB drive will be eight times larger than the previous record holder (15 PB). To put that into perspective, the data drive would be able to hold 24 billion MP3s or 60 copies of the 150 billion page backup of the Web! Or as one Engadget commenter put it, “Is that not roughly 89,478,000,000 floppy disks.” Continue reading

$5 Million Hard Drive

First off, I’m not a fan of contemporary/modern art. Most of it is just ridiculous and doesn’t make any sense to me, but to each his own.

This probably has to be the most ridiculous modern “art” piece I’ve ever seen.

The “sculpture,” called “5 Million Dollars 1 Terabyte” is simply a 1TB hard drive with 5 million dollars-worth of pirated content.

Pirro’s Restaurante – Woodstock, IL

Pirro’s (http://pirrosrestaurante.com) is an Italian restaurant in the historic Woodstock Square in Woodstock, IL. On my mom’s birthday, with a Groupon coupon in hand, we headed over to get a taste of their menu.

We started off with an Antipasti (aka Appetizer). We ordered the Fresh Mozzarella Bruschetta Platter since it looked the most appetizing. It was a great choice and was really delicious. A perfect bend of savory and sweet.
