Ira Glass on Motivation

NoFilmSchool is one of my favorite places to read up on film news and tutorials for aspiring filmmakers, like myself. A (relatively) recent post features a quote from Ira Glass, host and producer of This American Life. It’s a great quote for anyone involved in creative work, and it’s something I need to keep in mind moving forward with my writing career.

Warner Brothers Buys Reddit Comments

Source: hustlersquad.net

Yes, that’s right, the Holywood giant Warner Brothers bought the rights to a series of comments on Reddit. What was so special about these comments? When one user asked, “Could I destroy the entire Roman Empire during the reign of Augustus if I traveled back in time with a modern U.S. Marine infantry battalion or MEU?” in AskReddit, another user took it upon himself to write a story about that exact situation. The result: a story, titled Rome, Sweet Rome, that has attracted attention from creatives at Warner Brothers.

Since then, the story is not being developed on Reddit any more, thanks to Warner Brothers’ lawyers.

Check out the portion of the story written over 8 days on Reddit here.

I haven’t read the whole story yet, but what I have read is pretty good. It’s a great idea, and it’s not surprising that a studio bought up the idea. We’ll see if it ever gets made, though.
