Pirro’s Restaurante – Woodstock, IL

Pirro’s (http://pirrosrestaurante.com) is an Italian restaurant in the historic Woodstock Square in Woodstock, IL. On my mom’s birthday, with a Groupon coupon in hand, we headed over to get a taste of their menu.

We started off with an Antipasti (aka Appetizer). We ordered the Fresh Mozzarella Bruschetta Platter since it looked the most appetizing. It was a great choice and was really delicious. A perfect bend of savory and sweet.

Next up was a salad, which was nothing special. So we moved on the the main course, Cedar Plank Salmon. The menu’s description:

Grilled over a cedar plank, topped with balsamic reduction. Served with roasted red pepper risotto, grilled zucchini and yellow squash.

The salmon was delicious. Really flaky and just melted in my mouth. It was slightly burnt on one side, however, which was a bit disappointing. The vegetables were also delicious as they seemed to have been made in the same sauce as the salmon. I’m not a fan of risotto, so I can’t comment on how well it was done.

To finish off the meal, we got some free gelato, on account of my mom’s birthday. What’s interesting is that anyone can just walk in and buy some gelato without having to sit down for a meal.

I’ll definitely be stopping by Pirro’s again, if only for the gelato.
