Silly Website URLs

Sometimes you have to wonder what people were thinking when they chose these urls:

  • A site called ‘Who Represents‘ where you can find the name of the agent that represents a celebrity. Their domain name is http://www.whorepresents.com
  • Experts Exchange, a knowledge base where programmers can exchange advice and views. Can you guess their url?www.expertsexchange.com (it seems that the site might be down at the moment)
  • Looking for a pen? Look no further than Pen Island at http://www.penisland.net
  • Need a therapist? Try Therapist Finder at http://www.therapistfinder.com (kind of reminds me of Tobias, the Analrapist, in Arrested Development)
  • Then of course, there’s the Italian Power Generator company… http://www.powergenitalia.com
  • And now, we have the Mole Station Native Nursery, based in New South Wales: http://www.molestationnursery.com (url is still there, but the nursery doesn’t seem to be using it anymore (for good reason))
  • If you’re looking for computer software, there’s always http://www.ipanywhere.com (this also seems to not be in use anymore)
  • Welcome to the First Cumming Methodist Church. Their website is http://www.cummingfirst.com (the url seems to be taken by a gay blogger now)
  • Then, of course, there’s these brainless art designers, and their whacky website: http://www.speedofart.com
  • Want to holiday in Lake Tahoe? Try their brochure website at http://www.gotahoe.com

Bad Analogies in School Papers

This post comes to you from the sun deck of the Norwegian Pearl in the Atlantic Ocean.
  • He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.
  • The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t.
  • McBride fell 12 stories, hitting the pavement like a Hefty Bag filled with vegetable soup.
  • From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you’re on vacation in another city and “Jeopardy” comes on at 7 p.m. instead of 7:30.
  • Her hair glistened in the rain like nose hair after a sneeze.
  • Her eyes were like two brown circles with big black dots in the center.
  • Bob was as perplexed as a hacker who means to access T:flw.quid55328.com\aaakk/ch@ung but gets T:\flw.quidaaakk/ch@ung by mistake.
  • Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.
  • He was as tall as a six-foot-three-inch tree.
  • The hailstones leaped from the pavement, just like maggots when you fry them in hot grease.
  • Her date was pleasant enough, but she knew that if her life was a movie this guy would be buried in the credits as something like “Second Tall Man.”
  • Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.
  • The politician was gone but unnoticed, like the period after the Dr. on a Dr Pepper can.
  • They lived in a typical suburban neighborhood with picket fences that resembled Nancy Kerrigan’s teeth.
  • John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.
  • The thunder was ominous-sounding, much like the sound of a thin sheet of metal being shaken backstage during the storm scene in a play.
  • His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free.
  • The red brick wall was the color of a brick-red Crayola crayon.

Note: These are not mine, they were found online on various sites.

Wimp.com = Awesome Videos

So, I found this funny little video on this site called wimp.com. I’m not sure what the site is about, but it seems to just have an interesting video up everyday. A few days ago they had this awesome Japanese money box. You have to see it for yourself. I really want one now.

Then there’s this guy playing violin to hip hop. He’s pretty amazing:

Some Online Games to Pass the Time

Do you feel like not doing your work and procrastinating sometimes?

Well, have I got what you need. Online games! That’s right, addictive online games are always a good way to waste your time.

Here are a couple of my favorites (in no particular order):

Winterbells

Winterbells

Winterbellshttp://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/g3/bells.htm

Winterbells is a very soothing game where you make a bunny hope on little bells. The higher you go, the more challenging it gets. The background music is also a plus.

Check out Orisinal’s other great games: http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/

Drench

Drench

Drenchhttp://www.flashbynight.com/drench/

Drench is a simple game where you have to “drench” the entire board in one color. Don’t be deceived by it’s simplicity, once you get past the first few levels, it gets really tricky. Again, this has no background music, so you might want to put something on while you play.

Guess the Colors

Guess the Colors

Guess the Colorshttp://www.gamesforthebrain.com/game/guesscolors/

Guess the Colors is one of those games that makes you think. It’s a good way to waste time but exercise your brain at the same time! (Note: The colored pegs can, and do, repeat. So keep that in mind when making guesses)

Click Maze 2

Click Maze 2

Click Maze 2http://www.freepuzzlegames.biz/game/103/Click-Maze-2.html

I don’t know what Click Maze 1 was like, but Click Maze 2 is fun. The first round is really simple, but then you start getting into moving walls, and that’s where it starts to get difficult. It’s a pretty mindless game, but fun nonetheless.

Cat Gets 100 Stars

Cat Gets 100 Stars

Cat Gets 100 Stars:

http://www.nekogames.jp/mt/2009/05/cat_gets_100_stars.html

The premise of this game is really simple. You control a cat. Find all 100 stars, and you win! As you can see, there clearly isn’t 100 stars on the screen. Can you find the others? The game only has this 1 level, but it’s really satisfying when you find all the stars.

Dice Wars

Dice Wars

Dice Warshttp://www.gamedesign.jp/flash/dice/dice.html

Dice Wars is a bit like Risk, only there aren’t any special pieces and no countries. It’s really fun and addicting. Give it a try.

Captain Forever

Captain Forever

Captain Forever: http://www.captainforever.com/captainforever.php

The premise of the game is really interesting. You pilot this ship and destroy other ships. Once you destroy them, you can augment your ship with their debris. Eventually, you can build it up into something like what you see to the left. Here’s some background game story info: http://www.captainforever.com/readme.php.

Desktop Tower Defense

Desktop Tower Defense

Desktop Tower Defense: http://www.handdrawngames.com/DesktopTD/Game.asp

The goal of the game is to defend the desktop from the creeps by building towers. There is some strategy involved in placing your towers, so plan it out well.

Bugs

Bugs

Bugs: http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/g3/bugs.htm

Another game from Orisinal. As per their trend, this game is another relaxing/soothing game, especially with the nice music. Click once to charge your jump (make sure none of the bugs touch your bubble), then let go and jump (making sure not to land on any bugs). Any bugs in your jump bubble fly away and you get points!

THE MISSILE GAME 3D

THE MISSILE GAME 3D

The Missle Game 3D: http://www.addictinggames.com/missilegame3d.html

Test your skills of dexterity in 3D! Navigate a missile through a tunnel with obstacles. I just found this game, and it’s a lot of fun.

That’s about it for now. I’ll update this post if I find more interesting online games.

Do you have any favorite online games? Let me know in the comments!

Ever Wonder What a Petabyte is?

Well, here’s a helpful diagram I found that makes it easier to understand:

My “Hello” to the World.

Welcome to my blog! My name is Paul, and I am a college student studying Biomedical Engineering (BME) in the US. I have finally decided to join the blogging craze. I know I’m quite behind on the curve, but I don’t mind.

I will not be revealing my full identity on this blog. Why? I’m not sure, but I think it’ll be more interesting this way. All you need to know is that my name is Paul and I am a college student. In subsequent posts, I will most likely reaveal small tidbits of info about me, most likely unintentionally. So if you want to know more about me, you’ll just have to read my blog. 🙂

I felt is was fitting that my first post would be the weekend after my quarter ended. Finals are done, and I have time to think about stuff other than biomechanics and biostatistics. Also, during this break I will be going on a cruise to the Caribbean (over Christmas), and then I’ll be in Dubai during New Year’s. If anything interesting happens, I’ll post here.

However, that’s not the main purpose of this blog. The purpose of this blog is to let you, the people, know anything interesting I stumble onto. For example, today, I’d like to show you an awesome widget that charts the entire history of the internet, particularly all the memes that have arisen since the internet’s inception.

Here’s the link: http://www.dipity.com/tatercakes/Internet_Memes/embed_tl?skin

WARNING: If you get too caught up in it (i.e. zoom in on the timeline for a more detailed view of memes), you will lose track of time and spend hours browsing through the history of the internet (I know this from experience).

The site, Dipity, can do this for all kinds of subjects, such as a timeline of the H1N1 vaccine or the official Tom Cruise timeline. It’s pretty cool, and I’m still exploring it’s uses.

That’s all for tonight. I’m sure I’ll have more interesting things later today.
